Monday.. had my interview to keep my job as an RA for next year. Went alright... thought I could do better and kinda worried. We'll see, I get a letter on Friday.

So yesterday was an interesting day. I went with my research supervisor to the UCSD med center to cut brain tissues for other researchers. The HNRC (this HIV brain bank) has freezers full of brains of HIV patients. These freezers are located in the department of pathology and where the autopsies are performed. So as we both walked in, an autopsy had just started. The first thing I saw was a pale cadaver with his whole chest cavity wide open and exposed. We suited up with disposable gowns, booties, apron, gloves, and a face mask. I took a closer look and all of his organs were missing. They were placed on the other autopsy table where Dr. Masliah (the PI in the lab I work with and the director of the pathology services) was teaching some residents what to do, look for, and such. Then Dr. Masliah had a guy show me the patient's brain. This was the first time I've held a fresh human brain in my hands; kinda different from those preserved ones. The smell was pretty wretched but I eventually got used to it. Then I changed my bloody gloves with new ones and we got working on cutting the frozen brains in the back.

Today, I got one step closer to getting x-ray certified. Took x-rays of a friends teeth and he took x-rays of mine. Bleh, I really need to get my wisdom teeth out.. they're impacted. Then Friday I have an appointment with a periodontist to shadow him, should be good.

Bleh, then next Thursday I have an interview with the PRIME program. I was happy I got an interview but I'm really nervous. Either I get this and have the opportunity to travel abroad during the summer or I don't and just go home and study during the summer. We shall see. 56 applicants for 23 spots. Not bad odds, just need to have a good interview.

Well that's it. Should be sleeping. 9:30am class. =(
