well anyways, that cultural heritage this was quite hellish.....to say the least
it was loud...it was boring... it was repetitive...we had to wait for Mrs. Tsai Wong (who was late)...

it overall was boring...but having a lot of friends there made it interesting........

so, today we have band, at 10....7 hours away from home

there is some bible fellowship at the the chinese church...at 7:30 or so...i think i'll try to go to that...

i dont think i have a lot of hw, for once....i just finished my math and all...
im going to read chapters 13-22 sometime soon so i can work on my study guide soon....im planning to do all my HW in my room, to stay away from the computer....the evil time-gobbling thing....

The Guideline of My Life

A distant figure floats tall above me like a sensei in an old ninja film, directing me toward a better life and a greater future. The body is of far distance like guidance through an unmarked mine field, and hovers above resembling an elder teacher instructing a student. This outline has a tall stature with broad shoulders and black spiked-up bangs. Being around this character, one may instantly feel a friendly touch that warms hearts and brings happiness. The special figure inside each person, in every heart, would be my older brother Mark.
Mark Andrew Cheng Siy is currently enrolled in the University of San Francisco or, in short, USF. He was accepted to University of California Los Angles and all the other UC Colleges but decided that San Francisco was a better place for him. Mark attended Clovis West just last year allowing me to enjoy one year with his enthusiastic presence before he left for college. He was a dedicated student, staying in band from 4th grade to his senior year and also a strong three-year devotion to Key Club. He volunteers at Saint Agnes, Valley Children�s, and other Key Club events which mentally creates a golden heart of a saint. His commitment inspires me and other people who look up to him; I know for a fact, that band takes a large amount of time out in a busy schedule.
My second oldest brother has many physical properties that describe his own self-character. His tone of speech is a low-ish vibe yet he talks in a sophisticated manner. Mark has asthma just like me and my other brothers; he also has, like my two younger brothers, a hereditary dry skin disease called Eczema � which I am fortunate not to have.
Mark has grown very dark because his two years of swimming and four years of marching band. He has unusual faded white spots on his tan, brown back which I believe came from swimming seasons without sun block. He had eye glasses but then switched to eye-touching contact lenses this past year.
We�ve had many interesting childhood memories together, with my other brothers. Ones that pop into my mind are the origin of my first scar and us playing joyfully with our mother�s kitchen utensils. My scar came from a bridge Mark made with a long, white pillow. He let go of the pillow while I was in the middle and all support gave out. The last thing I remember is looking at my bleeding scar on my left forehead which had collided with a desk.
We played many games in my childhood such as creating a fake town full of presidents, money, and stores. Since they were based on my comics, Mark decided to call it Mike Town. I was the president, Mark was the vice president, and Mitchell was �the rest.� That game went on for a couple years, but what I believe lasted the longest was our cooking game. We each owned our own cooking show; Mark would always be the most creative with gathering ingredients to finding some of our mom�s best pots and pans. This game was everything: we cooked, we baked, we ate.
Any baby-naming book would tell you Mark means �warlike.� Well I see my Mark as being aggressive and confident, able to achieve anything he desires. Like in many large families, Mark has created a roadmap or standard for me � the younger sibling � to beat. In his personality, Mark leads by example and shows the true ties of friendship and family. He is one, a great, responsible leader; then two, an overall excellent brother.

Examine the establishment of the Silk Roads. How did increased trade along these routes influence the participating societies?

The silk roads that went from Rome to China did numerous things, it brought into contact the great empires and dynasties of the time, it brought wealth to many, it allowed people to become specialized in certain trades, it brought new technologies to the people and also the merchants and travelers journeying on the roads brought their culture and religion along with the hidden hitch-hiker, disease. Han Wudi, the emperor of China, took the initiative of starting the silk roads by clearing central China of Xiongnu control. With this development the emperor did not have to go with his original plan of going through India. With intelligence from Zhang Qian the Chinese established a trade route to the western world.
The silk roads were not exclusively on land, the routs also went through the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the Arabian Sea. During the earlier times of the silk roads the classical societies had a hard time ensuring the safety of traders passing through because of being stretched out too thin. Bandits or pirates sometimes intercepted the merchants which led to a price hike in the transactions over the roads. Two main things stimulated the long distance trade; first, rulers involved with the silk roads invested in constructing roads and bridges, secondly, conquest by empires expanded extended the reach of the classical empires therefore expanding the amount of protected lands. With the increases of safety the cost of trading went down while the quantity of goods being transacted went up.
Not only goods traveled across the roads, there were also religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism and also Christianity. Buddhism, which was well established in northern India attracted merchant converts that spread their faiths too oases that served as resting spots; most of the merchants traveling the silk roads became Buddhist. Hinduism also traveled through the Silk Roads but was not as prominent. Christianity spread from Rome to the Mediterranean basin even reached out to India. Mani regarded Zarathustra as the prophet as Persia, Buddha as the prophet of India and Jesus as the prophet of the Mediterranean world; he saw a need for a unified religion so he mixed all of these religions and came up with his own religious faith. Manichaeism quickly spread by efficiently the silk roads trading network.
Pathogens were the side-effect of long-distanced trade, the diseases found new opportunities to spread to societies that have no inherited or acquired immunities. Epidemics spread like wildfire and took millions of lives. Small pox, measles and possible the bubonic plague flourished in China and Rome. The diseases brought down the economies and caused a social �make-over.� The Chinese and Roman empires contracted and turned to self-support; the pathogens weakened these empires beyond repair and helped bring down the Han dynasty and the western Roman empire.
The silk roads brought great change to most of the world, ideas and goods were spread like never before. The roads helped build up empires and spread new ideas and religions but it also weakened many of the interacting countries because of deadly diseases.

today was sorta fun...
i got up at 6:15 so that i could pick up jason at 6:30...
i knocked on the door 2 times b4 ringing the door bell...

then his dad said they would take him.. so i went ok...
