� Nomadic Mongols were organized into families, clans and tribes.
� Genghis Khan broke up tribes and forced men of able age to join military units with not tribal affiliations � this policy was issued because of his previous experience with rebellions.
� The Mongols were skilled equestrians and skilled archers � they also wielded a sword and mace.


� The Mongols were nomadic peoples who depended on settled agricultural societies for food.
� The Mongols had short bows that were used on horseback.
� The Mongols allowed merchants to travel unmolested through their empires, the protection benefited ambassadors and merchants.


� They have shamans; people were attracted to religions and other cultures through trade
� Many converted to Buddhism, Manichaeism, or Nestorian Christianity.
� They developed a writing script.
� Many converted to Islam.


� There were tribes and clans
� Everyone was a Nomad, or descendents of Nomads
